A future-proofed fibre broadband network is coming to five locations across Scotland. 175,000 premises in Dumfries, Dunfermline, Cumbernauld, [Kilmarnock] (https://www.netomnia.com/cities/kilmarnock), and Kirkcaldy are set to have access to Netomnia’s high-speed network, as part of its investment of up to £52 million in the area.
The full-fibre broadband infrastructure, which is already being built by Netomnia, will provide access to upload and download speeds of up to 10Gbps, more than 170 times faster than the UK’s average. This capability means that Scotland’s home and business broadband needs will be met for decades to come.
The network will enable residents to download enormous files in seconds, game without lag, work from home and stream content all at the same time, across multiple devices, with no buffering.
Netomnia’s full-fibre broadband infrastructure brings with it a host of big-picture benefits to Scotland, and the UK as a whole. It facilitates more new businesses, makes it easier for local businesses to expand and compete with big brands, and means better productivity and greater scope for innovation. It also means better access to healthcare, as well as to learning and development opportunities.
Zoltan Kovacs, Managing Director at Netomnia, the UK’s fastest-growing network operator, says, “Since 2021, our team has been working across Scotland to provide a much-needed boost of broadband access. We know how empowering excellent internet access can be and are working hard to level the digital playing field, which is why we have been committed to bringing full-fibre to as many areas in Scotland as we can. Our build in Dumfries, Dunfermline, Cumbernauld, Kilmarnock, and Kirkcaldy, which started in the last quarter of 2022, is a true reflection of this.
“Once our network is live, residents will benefit from dramatic increases in upload and download speeds, allowing them to take full advantage of all the resources on the internet and the opportunities they offer. But the true impact will be felt for years to come. Technology is advancing and our digital connectivity needs will only grow over time. Our broadband network is designed with this in mind, so residents across Scotland, from Dumfries to Kirkcaldy can rest easy knowing their needs will be met as they evolve.”
