Netomnia will provide Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband infrastructure to around 44,000 premises in Carlisle as part of an investment of up to £13 million in the area, delivering access to its robust and reliable broadband network, helping to future-proof and diversify the local economy.
The company is partnering with Border Civils and Utilities to roll out its broadband infrastructure in Carlisle, enabling speedy deployment using cutting edge optical solutions.
Currently the second largest city in England by area, Carlisle today is the main cultural, commercial and industrial centre in the Borderlands, playing host to a variety of museums and heritage centres, and with easy access to full fibre broadband this will only increase its competitiveness to attract further businesses, all with environmental benefits.
Alan O’Prey, Managing Director at Netomnia, commented: “We are delighted to continue our expansion in the North of England, providing thousands of residents and businesses in Carlisle with access to our ultrafast and reliable broadband infrastructure.
“Having access to reliable and fast internet is more important than ever and we hope our investment in the area not only brings environmental benefits, but also enhances opportunities for businesses and residents with increased economic activity.”
John Stevenson, MP for Carlisle, commented: “It’s a very exciting milestone for residents and businesses in Carlisle who will soon have access to a much needed reliable and ultrafast broadband network. Having a reliable connection is hugely important to level the digital playing field, whilst also attracting new talent to our town. We welcome Netomnia to Carlisle and look forward to receiving the benefits of a full fibre network.”
Netomnia secured £123 million in funding to support its rollout strategy at the end of 2021 and aims to reach one million premises by 2023.
Netomnia makes wholesale connectivity available to Internet Service Providers (ISPs), building the infrastructure for their broadband services. Its network supports symmetrical (equal upload and download speeds) multi-gigabit services up to 10 Gbps (10,000 Mbps) using XGS-PON technology; this means ISPs using Netomnia’s network will be able to offer their customers reliable ultrafast speeds for decades to come.
