Netomnia becomes first-alt-net to build in all four UK countries as it reaches 265,000 premises passed

Oct 7, 2022

Netomnia, the UK’s fastest-growing wholesale fibre broadband operator, has today announced that its full fibre multi-gigabit network has commenced its rollout in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, making Netomnia the first alt-net with presence in all four countries in the United Kingdom.

Netomnia will provide Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband infrastructure to around 43,000 premises in Londonderry in an investment of up £12.9 million in the area, delivering access to its robust and reliable broadband network and helping to future-proof and diversify the local economy.

Netomnia’s network now passes 265,000 premises, all of which are ready for service and can access symmetrical ultrafast broadband speeds of up to 10Gbps. This latest investment means its ultrafast broadband network is now live in 35 town and cities across the UK and is actively building in 60 towns and cities.

Londonderry, often referenced as Derry by local residents, is the second largest city in Northern Ireland. The city has progressed as an economic centre for Northern Ireland, with many advertising, marketing, and engineering businesses calling Londonderry home and the introduction of an ultrafast network will continue its strong growth, attracting further businesses to the area.

Jeremy Chelot, Chief Executive Officer at Netomnia, commented: “We’re delighted to be bringing our network to Northern Ireland and the residents of Londonderry. Becoming the first alt-net with presence in all four countries across the UK is a fantastic achievement and is testament to the great work from the entire team and our brilliant build partners.

“Passing 265,000 premises in such a short time frame is even more impressive and demonstrates our unprecedented growth, building faster than anyone across the industry and ultimately towards ensuring multi-gigabit connectivity for decades to come.”

Along with YouFibre, an internet service provider, Netomnia has secured £418 million in funding since 2020 to support its rollout strategy.

Netomnia makes wholesale connectivity available to Internet Service Providers (ISPs), building the infrastructure for their broadband services. Its network supports symmetrical (equal upload and download speeds) multi-gigabit services up to 10 Gbps (10,000 Mbps) using XGS-PON technology; this means ISPs using Netomnia’s network will be able to offer their customers reliable ultrafast speeds for decades to come.
