Wrexham to receive full fibre boost from Netomnia

Aug 25, 2022

Netomnia, the UK’s fastest-growing wholesale fibre broadband operator, has today announced that its full fibre multi-gigabit network is being rolled out in Wrexham and the surrounding areas, as part of an investment of up to £12 million in the area.

Netomnia will provide Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband infrastructure to around 40,000 premises in Wrexham, delivering access to its robust and reliable broadband network and helping to future-proof and diversify the local economy.

The company is partnering with GForce to roll out its broadband infrastructure, enabling speedy deployment using cutting edge optical solutions. Netomnia’s latest investment in Wrexham builds on its existing presence in Wales, where it is already building its ultrafast broadband network to around 29,000 premises in Barry and 55,000 premises in Bridgend.

Formerly described as a historical market town, Wrexham has recently been notified it will receive city status on 1st September 2022 as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This will make Wrexham the seventh major city in Wales, demonstrating the increased popularity of the area for businesses, residents, and tourists. Today, Wrexham serves as a centre for manufacturing, retail, education, and administration for the Welsh borderlands.

Jeremy Chelot, Chief Executive Officer at Netomnia, commented: “We are passionate about providing access to fast and reliable broadband to attract further talent to the local area, enable businesses to work more effectively and provide more ways for people to communicate with ease.

“Marking our third location in Wales, we know that our network will provide real benefits to the area for generations to come and we look forward to continuing our expansion across the UK.”

Along with YouFibre, an internet service provider, Netomnia has secured £418 million in funding since 2020 to support its rollout strategy and will soon be starting its first rollout in Northern Ireland, in a bid to become the first alt-net with network present in all four countries in the UK.

Netomnia makes wholesale connectivity available to Internet Service Providers (ISPs), building the infrastructure for their broadband services. Its network supports symmetrical (equal upload and download speeds) multi-gigabit services up to 10 Gbps (10,000 Mbps) using XGS-PON technology; this means ISPs using Netomnia’s network will be able to offer their customers reliable ultrafast speeds for decades to come.
